If you're into science-fiction at
all, you'd best be damn well aware that the
theatrical preview for Serenity was recently released.
Serenity, of course, being the silver-screen follow up to the cult series
Firefly from writer/director Joss Whedon (of
Buffy the Vampire Slayer reknown). If you haven't taken it upon yourself to experience the series, then you're really missing out.
The release of the trailer triggered a fever-pitched buzz around the series - the result of so much enthusiasm and excitement igniting into a blaze that will burn throughout the summer until the movie is released this fall. Many of you know that I am myself contributing to the fuel for that bonfire, though my zeal is not nearly as remarkable as many others.
Nevertheless, after reading a
tip from
deusinnomen, I've discovered that Dark Horse Comics will, in fact, be releasing a three-part miniseries of graphic novels that will serve as a bridge between the show and the movie. Normally, I'm not a big comic book kind of guy, but given that I know
duck2ducks, who runs the
G-Mart in Chicago, you'd damn well better believe I'm all up ons. I've signed up an account with G-Mart and set up one
subscription for the miniseries. As the issues are released, they will be delivered to the G-Mart here in Champaign (otherwise known as the Dragon's Den) for me to pick up. You can also opt to have the issues mailed to you rather than Will Call.
There will be three covers for the first issue. Pictured here is one of the issue #1 covers - the other two are Inara and Jayne. As there are 6 more characters, I think it's a pretty safe bet that issues #2 and #3 will also have three covers each. If you want to get all three covers for each issue, you'll want to sign up for three subscriptions. At the cost of $2.99 per issue, even three subscriptions won't break the bank.
Errata: Evidently, I was mistaken about ordering multiple covers. The subscriptions in the list evidently correspond to just one item code, so assigning multiple subscriptions will end up getting you multiple copies of the same cover. However, Don tells me that you can go into Advance Orders and specify for multiple covers somehow. I'll get more details on how to do that from the man and update again.
Ordering Procedure Update: Here's the shakedown from
duck2ducks. If you're satisfied with cover #1, you're fine just setting up a subscription for the miniseries at
g-mart.com. Now that the new order cycle has begun, you can go into Advance Orders and place an order for covers #2 and #3. So, if you want to collect all nine covers ultimately, you'll need to place an Advanced Order for covers #2 and #3 during the order cycle before each issue is released.
Evidently, subscriptions only map to a single item code. Therefore, setting up three subscriptions will end up getting you three copies of whichever cover the subscription maps to.
